August and everything after… Thursday, August 5th, 2010

I sewed some owl cushions. I’ve decided that I don’t want any cushions I haven’t sewn myself (apart from the awesome tube fabric one). The owls were made out of two tweed skirts and pieces of Liberty print fabric – I’ll post a how-to on CO+K soon.

We’ve been doing lots of de-cluttering in the mews and I finally organized my shoes with DIY polaroid photos. I can’t tell you how long I’ve wanted to do that for.

Because polaroid film is so expensive, I came up with a super cheap DIY solution and you can see how to make your own on CO+K.

The exciting news in my life at the moment is that I’ve learnt how to play guitar. I’ve been terrible at it for years but after being taught how to play bass, I picked up the guitar and magically knew how to play it. Tom’s decided I’m getting an electro-acoustic Daisy Rock guitar for my birthday… we’re just torn between the sparkly pink (which is amazing) and the purple (which is a bit more me!). We want to get a heart shaped bass too, so I can play along with T’s music. I also got a 4-track app for my iPhone and I’ve been having so much fun with it!

I’ve done a few interviews recently and there’s one in the latest issue of Alt Fashion Magazine and another one on the Bead Army blog. We have a meeting with our publicist Sally after work today, so hopefully we’ll be doing a few more *fingers crossed*.

Bead’s Unlimited sent me a box of beads and links to play around with, I need to get my crafting hat on and see what I can make with them.

In other news, I’ve been doing DIY The Look guides for various stars on the CO+K blog. So far, we’ve had Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Kristen Stewart. Any ideas on who to feature next? Also, Knitten Kitten Jenny came to stay on Monday night. I love that her hair is a different colour everytime I see her (last time pink, this time bright purple).

What a crazy weekend! On Sunday, we made a new feature for CO+K called Suggested Share and here we are showing it off to Mark Zuckerberg.

Everyone really liked the site and one of the big FB bosses even pointed out how much he loved Crafterella in the corner.

The new feature shows you which of your Facebook friends would be interested in the project you’re looking at. So if you’re on a cupcake recipe, it’ll suggest sharing it with your friends who love cupcakes and if you’re looking at a tutorial for Lady Gaga sunglasses, it’ll suggest telling your friends who are Lady Gaga fans.

Here’s a video of Tom presenting the feature on Sunday night – he explains it way better than I can.

The feature was one of the winners, so on Monday we got to present it as part of the European Facebook conference at the Barbican (which Zuck was speaking at and was being streamed live on the internet). We also had a booth, where we got to showcase the feature to lots of journalists from The Financial Times, TechCrunch etc.

After no food and little sleep we finally got to relax with a cocktail party in the Barbican Gardens (which looked like somewhere Posion Ivy would live).

… and then a ladybird landed on my finger on the way home, yay!

Let’s get this show on the road… Monday, June 21st, 2010

Holland Park never fails to cheer me up on a dull day in London.

We didn’t have too much to do on Saturday, so we avoided the busy shops and headed for peace and quiet (with sushi and whoopie pies) in the Kyoto garden.

Within 5 minutes of sitting on a bench, we were surrounded by wildlife. The squirrels sat between us on the bench, eating peanuts straight from the bag.

This video made me laugh. The pigeon knocked all the peanuts off the bench but the squirrel managed to collect them all.

This is going to be my new sewing project, so I’m on the hunt for white & blue striped linen and big metal buttons, if anyone knows where I can find some?

Today we took part in a Facebook competition, where Tom, Tony and I made an application for sharing projects on CO+K which are tagged with things like Twilight, Hello Kitty or Lady Gaga with your Facebook friends who like those things. Mark Zuckerberg (the 26-year-old billionaire who started Facebook) had just flown in from San Francisco and we got to show him CO+K, which he really liked and then do a presentation about our application. Awesome news, we won the competition and tomorrow we’re presenting our idea live on the internet to thousands of people… scary!

We launched issue 19 of Snippets on Friday. This one is the Glitz & Glam issue with Tarina Tarantino on the cover. We have interviews with RockLove (+ a giveaway), Cake Wrecks (which is sooooo funny), Sew Crafty Fox and musician Jason Webley. We’ve also got how-to’s for making Chic Steals, Glitzy Decor, a Valentines Brooch, a competition to win the Crafty Chica’s latest craft novel and much, much more.

I can’t believe we’re at issue 19 already! We’re going to have a proper launch party for issue 20 with a cake with the cover printed on it.

Yesterday morning I woke up to an exciting package that Brother sewing machines had sent me. It’s sooooo pretty, has loads of amazing sewing and embroidery features, and it comes with an attachable mini-sewing table, which is really handy when you’re sewing something big. I’ve got lots of exciting plans with Brother and now that the sewing machine has arrived, I can get started!

Our Crafty Superstar on CO+K last week was Audrey Kitching, who shared lots of awesome DIY fashions projects. She makes me want to run down to the craft store and buy all kinds of glittery things.

Tom and I have had a cold for the past week (in Summer, not fair :( ), so instead of lazing around and getting better, we’ve been working full speed on CO+K and have so many new features on the go. Today we’re launching project embedding, so that people can share projects elsewhere! (If you have projects, go here to embed them).

I’m so happy now that it’s summer! Last week we went to see You Have Been Watching again at the BBC. This time it was all about kid’s TV shows and Charlie Brooker had a really cute puppet. I wish I could have a puppet sidekick to sit at my desk with me.

This week has been spent kicking around in the park, jogging (an hour a day – very tiring) and working on CO+K with Tom.

We now have videos on site and this awesome book and magazine library, where publishers have been sharing sample how-to projects from books.

After two years of living next to the Paddington recreational Park, we only just discovered that it has a nature trail.

We saw some real life nature in action, the ducks managed to outsmart the cats.

Louise moved down on Monday, so we celebrated her move at the Parliamentary Waffle house, which was a huge disappointment. I’m still not sure who to vote for but I’m leaning towards the democats!

The new issue of Snippets is almost ready to launch, here’s a hint of who’s on the cover.

My parents are coming to visit tomorrow, so Tom and I made some peanut butter pretzels for them. I’ll post photos and a recipe soon…

Like a cat in a comic book store… Sunday, April 18th, 2010

We got the first issue of Crafterella printed out and I love it so much.

I want to get lots of copies printed but I’m still on the hunt for a good / cheap printers, if anyone has any suggestions?

We made the middle pages a pull-out centrefold.

And there’s a how-to for making Crafterella cat ears on the back inside page.

Craft’s Beautiful… Thursday, March 11th, 2010

CO+K has a mention in the latest issue of Craft’s Beautiful magazine.

I injured my neck last Wednesday, so I spent most of the week in bed. Luckily, I had recovered enough to make it to Sunday brunch, which was at The Diner (we had to wait an hour for a table and the service was soooo slow). Lynz wore her 3D glasses necklace which I had made her! :D

While injured, Tom and I discovered the awesome Neds Noodle bar – check out the cute intro on their site!

The noodles were really tasty and they come in super cute take-out boxes. I used one of the boxes as a template to make a handbag years and years ago!

CO+K has a little mention in in the latest issue of Craft’s Beautiful magazine. We also did our second press release yesterday.

That reminds me, I found a new favorite magazine – Marie Claire Idées. Unfortunately it’s all in French but it’s filled with loads of amazing crafts and tutorials. Also, I went to see Alice In Wonderland in 3D last night. Lots of people were complaining of being disappointed but I really enjoyed it. It was pretty to look at!

Bandages on my arms and my legs from you… Saturday, February 27th, 2010

This week has had two date nights. On Tuesday we went to see The Lovely Bones at The Coronet, which is an awesome cinema in Notting Hill which does £3.50 movies on a Tuesday. The movie was weird but it did have lots of crafting at the start. On Wednesday we went to see Youth In Revolt, an awesome film with Nick from Nick & Norah and Juno in it, at the Trocadero.

After the movie we went to Ben & Dave’s new house for a pre-housewarming / goodbye party for Mel. As always, the food and cocktails were amazing and I was taught how to make a blackforest cocktail, which tastes like cake in a glass.

I had an amazing fabric shop on Goldhawk Road this week. I found the perfect waterproof fabric for my Burberry mac for £6.50 a meter (quite a saving for a £1000 jacket) and some awesome black check silk for the lining (it’s the same design that I made my dress with). I also got lots of silk for making two other dresses, but they’ll have to wait until I’m finished with my coat.

After one day of sewing, this is how my mac is shaping up. The forecast for the weekend is rain, so I shall fill mine with sewing, movies, brunching with friends, button buying and hiding out indoors.

CO+K is in the latest issue of Sew Magazine and Clare posted a lovely little post about us on her amazing new blog, Pass The Pattern.

Pass The Pattern… Friday, February 26th, 2010
