Fashions’s night out… Friday, September 11th, 2009

vogue-fashion-night-out

Yesterday was Fashion’s Night Out, which was like a pub crawl in the expensive fashion shops of Old Bond Street. Emma got us invites for the party at Chanel, where they had a nail bar in the basement (I’m surprised that no-one passed out with the fumes) and a photoshoot with Daisy Lowe upstairs. We stayed for a glass of champagne before heading off to see the rest of the street. It felt like a grown up’s version of Halloween, going from shop to shop, having nibbles, picking up freebies and glasses of booze. We had mini-bottles of champagne at DKNY, nibbles and OJ at Camper (where they had the most adorable kiddie shoes that I want in my size), truffles from a chocolate shop and then more champagne from Alexander McQueen.

mac

Burberry had the best drinks, we sipped on Pimms with strawberries and gin & tonics, while I fell in love with this layered mac. At £1000, I’m trying to figure out if I could sew my own.

plasticines

In the evening, we were invited to see the Plasticines play at Proud Camden, so we met up with Wendy and headed along. The Plasticines are a girl band from Paris and Tom described them as the “French Sleater-Kinney”. They stopped mid-set to tell the crowd that they were “f****** s***” and wouldn’t keep playing unless we made more of an effort, which was pretty awesome. Keep an eye out for them in a future issue of Snippets.

dressupbar

Proud seemed like quite a nice venue. It’s in the Stables Market, so the bar area was made up of lots of little stables  filled with arcade games, pole-dancing tables or comfy sofas. My favorite was the Dress-Up Bar, where you could try on different outfits.

Sonisphere… Monday, August 3rd, 2009

ravenbagel

Yesterday we went for brunch at Plan 9 with Raven. Even the waitress commented on how awesome her “heart attack bagel” looked, it was a proper rockstar breakfast. We couldn’t help but notice how fit, healthy and pregnant everyone else in Maida Vale is at the moment.

sonsiphere

I won weekend tickets to the Sonsisphere festival, so we put on our wellies and headed up to Knebworth to meet up with Tony and Nick, who were also going. It was such a hot day and almost everyone was wearing black!

fred

We saw a bit of Feeder and then headed over to see Limp Bizkit, a band who I had hopped to forgot since being 14. It was a bit like an f-word contest and Fred Durst is way too middle-aged for that these days.

catandtom

We went for a wander and saw a few other bands. Raz was there too but we didn’t bump in to him.

bikes

We watched bikers doing tricks for a while and then went to see Nine Inch Nails, before heading back to London for dinner at Vapianos. The weekend has been full of sin (fast food and alcohol), so today I’m getting back to my yoga, jogging and healthy living!

posse

We met up with Emma, Raven and Tony and headed to a gig at The Hideaway in Archway last night. Raven thinks we need to make a “call my posse” button for the iPhone and I agree.

hideaway

There was a cool stage with pinup girls painted on it and they kept giving us free shots of whisky, so it ended up a rather drunken night. Apart from ending up semi-stranded, we made it home in one piece! Also on Wednesday we went for sushi and to see Public Enemy with Emma and Raven.

thermals

Last night we went to see The Thermals at Cargo, they played all the classics and got very sweaty.

toaster

We’ve got a new toaster, which is making lunchtime at the mews much more efficient. It has four slots, a bagel setting and you can set each side differently, so I can have my toast super crunchy and Tom can have his barely toasted.

bowls

Tom got us the Joseph Joseph rainbow measuring bowl set, that we were eyeing up. He even had it gift wrapped, so that it would be a surprise. It’s the most useful thing ever and has measuring cups, two mixing bowls, a sieve and a strainer.

picture-3

Also, I turned the teacup that Clare got me for my 50p penpal gift in to a candle, like she suggested. It’s cinnamon scented.

sunburntbarbie

We’ve finally got the house to ourselves again and we don’t have any visitors until the weekend. It’s been good catching up on work and the Summer Holiday issue of Snippets is almost ready to launch.

spunkyband

Last night we went to Westfield for a bite to eat at Yo! and Tom was talking about Mary Queen Of Shops, Mary Portis and when we looked up, she was standing in front of us, looking at what was on the belt – it was really spooky. After that we went to see Spunky’s band Jesus H Foxx at The Fly bar. It was funny being around Fifer’s again.

mews

Other than that, we’ve had a pretty quiet week, sitting outside the mews on the comfy furniture and working. Also, Tom’s all excited because I managed to win his sparkly blue dream guitar from eBay, which he’s wanted for ages. Early birthday present.

manics1

Last night we went to see the Manics at the Roundhouse in Camden. They did two, hour-long, sets and it was awesome.

legotimer

We got a Lego head egg timer from the shop at Legoland. It has faces on three sides, so as the time ticks down, it mixes and matches different eyes and mouths to make new faces.

bustnewsletter

Also, my favorite magazine, Bust made CO+K their top pick of the Girl Wide Web in their latest newsletter.

bbc1

On Monday we went to see The Yeah You’s with Dermot O’Leary at the BBC Maida Vale studios.

maidavale

We walk past them a lot on the way home and we’d always wondered what they were like inside, so when we were offered tickets, we jumped at the chance.

studios

It was really cool inside. The band weren’t very good but Dermot was funny and it was free, so we can’t complain. We’re going to apply for tickets to recordings there a lot more now.

hawley

Last night we went to the Hawley Arms in Camden. It was Amy Winehouse’s favorite boozer, but now that she’s moved out of Camden, it can be ours. The roof terrace is really nice and you can sit and watch the fancy trains go by while you drink.

grant

Grant and his girlfriend, Hannah were suppose to be meeting us there, but he ended up going on a drunken adventure with the singer from The Others, and we didn’t see him until much later on.

minieggs

The best thing about the Hawley is that they serve mini eggs, lollipops, dolly mix and caschew nuts on tap.

hawleyarms

On Friday night we went to Thrash Hit’s first year birthday party with Raz at the Crobar in Soho. They serve root beer as a mixer, so we tried it with amaretto and that could quite possibly be the best drink ever.

marspatrol

On Saturday we were invited to see Ross’ new band, The Mars Patrol play the Camden Barfly. Gail Porter is their biggest fan and was there jumping around and getting on stage.

musselsandbeer

After the gig, we were standing at the bus stop when we decided we didn’t feel like going home, so headed to Belgo for mussels and beer. I tried Floris cheery and raspberry beers, which were so nice.

After waking up a little hazy on Sunday morning, we went food shopping for our dinner party. It had turned in to such a lovely day by the time we got home and our upstairs neighbours were sitting outside, so we introduced ourselves and sat drinking wine and eating sun lollies with them until Clare and Jo arrived for dinner. Raven, our neighbour from Texas, gave Tom a can of coffee from home. It has chicory in it and makes really spicy iced coffee.

teacup

Clare brought me a really cute little Japanese tea cup as a present. Clare and I are 50p penpals, so we find gifts for 50p and post them to each other. Jo and her run a stall called Pogostick Pie, where they sell adorable china tea sets – go and see them if you get a chance!

jenga

After dinner we headed to the pub at Little Venice and played Jenga, while trying not to get the blocks of wood in our pints.

sushilunch

It’s a bank holiday Monday but we’re working hard, as the rest of the week will be busy. I rewarded myself wish a sushi lunch on the doorstep – the neighbours looked jealous.

meandben

Today was awesome because we got to hang out with Ben Kweller in Brighton. We bumped in to him at the train station and shared a cab down to the shore.

milkshake

BK treated us to milkshakes and fried food in an America diner – I had gingerbread flavor and he had marshmallow, but my one won the taste test! We chatted about root beer, music, our favorite iPhone apps, London / America, temporary tattoos, webdesign and he took a bunch of CO+K Moo cards to give to his wife, Lizzie. He thinks Tom looks like Adam Green.

tomandben1

We got to hang out during his soundcheck and then we all headed to a secret gig in a park, where he played lots of requests and dedicated Penny On The Train Tracks to us. After that, we nipped away to send postcards and catch a few songs of Catherine AD’s performance.

carousel

In the evening we went to BK’s show, which was really good, and said goodbye to him (he wants T to email and “chat web”) and then headed off to see Idlewild on the DiS stage. I ♥ Brighton, I think we’re going to come down in a few weeks, when the weather is really nice, and spend the day exploring and hanging out on the beach.

Drift into a deep fog… Friday, May 15th, 2009

tomgambling
2nd day of the Great Escape festival and, as planned, we gambled away our 2p savings jar in the penny falls.

pennyfalls1

It got rather exciting at the end and we had a crowd of Japanese tourists gathered around and cheering us on, as the prizes were pushed tantalizingly close to the edge.

tomprizes

We hit it big in the end, winning a toy mobile phone and a pot of several year old candy. We caught a couple of bands in the bar on the pier and then headed to a DiS meeting, where we nommed free food and drink.

mecocktail1

In the evening we had cocktails…

jellybaby

Including one that looked like the sea and tasted like Elise’s famous Miracle Juice. To make Miracle Juice, she would combine shots of every spirit in the house and mix it together with fruit juice – it always got stronger and weirder as the night went on.

darkpier

In the evening we went to see METRIC, who were awesome and walked along the dark pier.
