Crafting heaven… Friday, May 8th, 2009

boxoftools

I woke up in craft heaven this morning when the postman brought two huge boxes of craft tools that Fiskars had sent to me to play with.

tools

They sent load of cutting tools (most of which are made from are non-stick), stampers and a cutting mat. I can’t wait to get crafting and try them out.

stickerbook

I’ve found a good way to organize my stickers too with a photo album I bought from Paperchase. I love stickers.

dreammirror

Tom decided that he was going to be the most amazing boyfriend ever and headed up to Ikea, in Edmonton at 8pm last night, to get supplies and make me the mirror from my dreams. Today we painted the mirror white (we discovered that we have the best DIY store in London around the corner from us) and Tom wired up and attached the lights to it. It looks totally awesome! I’ve always wanted a mirror like this and absolutely nowhere sells them – my dream came true.

greatbear

My slightly less exciting present for Tom was a Great Bear poster, which is like a map of the underground but the station names are replaced with the names of famous people from history. We live at Thomas Edison on the Engineer’s line.

I also made an organizer for my bag out of Cath Kidston oil cloth, which I bought during the sale. Now I have individual pockets for all the things I carry around in my bag, so I don’t have to rake through everything when I want to find something. It also makes transferring the contents of one bag to another super easy! In other news, I had a call with ThreadBanger last week, so we’re going to be working together and my cool Canadian uncle arrives in 2 days time.

Back to 2001… Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

I’ve given myself an embarrassing, Harry Potter-esque scar on my forehead from my hair straighteners, it’s so annoying and I hope it goes away asap.

puri3

Last night we went to see The Boat That Rocked and had dinner at the 02 centre, which was good. We got more purikura photos, I’m getting quite a collection.

Tonight we were off to see Hundred Reasons at the 02 Academy in Islington. We went for sushi beforehand, where we bumped in to Ross from Chains Undone, and his new band Mars Patrol – which was crazy because we know him from six years ago in Edinburgh. They were also playing at the 02 Academy but we weren’t able to sneak through to their room. I was down as Cat Cat Cutoutandkeep for the gig, which made me laugh. Johnny Foreigner were supporting and we bumped in to Del, who didn’t invade the stage this time. Hundred Reasons were really good and played all of the classics. I gave Colin a tipsy hug at the afterparty. We bumped in to Ross again on the tube back, it’s funny how all the Scottish people in London end up together, and then we saw Owen from school at Chalk Farm station. There have been way too many weird coincidences tonight.

delicious

Tom set me up with Delicious Library on my computer, so that I can keep track of the books I get sent. You scan in the barcodes using your webcam and it puts the books on a digital shelf. It’s so cute.

I love rainbows… Saturday, March 7th, 2009

rainbowcards

I’m finding myself really drawn towards things that are colour coordinated like rainbows, so I’ve been taking snaps of them recently. Above is the paper and cards section in Paperchase.

rainbownails

A woman who served us had a rainbow manicure which was so cool.

The Wallpaper city guide book wall at Liberty is all colour-coordinated too.

filofax

It’s another one of my new year’s resolutions to stay organized this year, so I treated myself to a new Filofax. It was super expensive when if first came out but I managed to bag it for half price in the sale.

filobag

It made me happy getting to carry around a massive Filofax bag for the day.

I’ve also been trying to get all my craft supplies organized, so I made myself a knitting needle pot out of a can decorated with ribbons.

I also worked out a neat little system for organazing my embroidery floss and put a how-to on CO+K.

felt

I did a similar rainbow thing with my felt drawer.

A rainbow of books… Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

I’ve been back in London for a few weeks and I’ve been so busy with work that I haven’t had a chance to update. My rainbow bookcase has grown and grown, it now takes over two levels of my bookcase.

We went to a burlesque club, that felt like something from Skins. It was scheduled to be demolished the next day to make way for train tracks, and there was a drunk dancing guy with a sword who kept falling over – very scary.

We also went to a test screening of James McAvoy’s new film, The Last Station. We had to wear stickers with  our names on and fill out questionnaires. I didn’t really like it.

On my way to meet Tom, I met a woman who was having the worst day of her life. She’d missed a job interview, almost got attacked by a drunk man on the tube, was late for her singing lesson, had already missed a dancing lesson and had walked the wrong way from the tube station. I walked her back in the right direction and ensured her that things could only get better.

Tom’s been dragging me around suit shopping, so to thank me for my patience he got me this gorgeous Vivienne Westwood necklace and a very, very cuddly, dark purple, fluffy dressing gown.

I forgot to post a photo when I first got this, several months ago, but it’s a super pretty Viv ring that Tom got me just after we moved to London. I love it!

The organized life… Monday, March 31st, 2008

book

I made a couple of purchases to help myself become more organized. The first is a book called The Organized Life by Stephanie Denton. From what I have read, it seems like a really good book and it has loads of useful tips. I have a bad habit of starting a book and never getting to the end, so it’s my top to-do for the week.

filofax

The second purchase was the second series of Perfect Housewife by Anthea Turner. There’s something about seeing how terribly messy other people’s homes are that makes me feel fantastic and finish tidying my own!

containers

After seeing Miquette’s awesome craft room, I decided to steal her idea to keep her craft supplies in take-out containers. They’re so handy.
