xstitch

I had lots of fun at xstitch on Thursday. I even enjoyed jumping over two walls and running through a locked park on the way home! I stitched my name, the paintbucket icon from Photoshop and a Drowned In Sound drowning man. Tony came along too and stitched a pretty awesome bomb, which he tweeted here. Phil gave us free cupcakes, very alcoholic jelly shots and serenaded the room with drunken karaoke. I love Cupcakes, Cocktails & Cross-stitch.

We had brunch at Plan 9 this morning and Tom bid on their last twinkie (he’d never tried one and wanted to after seeing them in Wall-E), and after that we headed in to the center, because London is on red alert and Tom couldn’t resist being where the action was, but there wasn’t any!

Taking in the view from Gipsy Hill… Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

I had a fun and craft filled weekend. On Saturday, we travelled up to Crystal Palace where Clare and Jo had a stall at a craft fair. They collect tea sets and sell them on. There was an amazing market which was filled with stalls selling retro knick-knacks. If you’ve ever wondered where clutter ends up, it’s at Haynes Lane Market.

Tom spotted this funny sign. Afterwards we headed to Clare and Jo’s house on Gipsy Hill, where you can get an amazing view of London.

On Sunday, we headed to Bethnal Green for a Valentine’s craft fair, where my buddies from Love From Hetty & Dave and Craft Guerilla were there.

On Wednesday, Tony, Tom and I headed to Bug 11 with Adam Buxton. It was very funny but now have this song in my head:

I’ve had another fun week saying yes to things. January was very busy and February is looking even more so. I’ve been jogging every single day, which means I’ve been getting through a heap of podcasts and learning all kinds of things – like public speaking, being more green, the evil jobs of marketing and sales, and how to get things done. I also joined the dentist, who was amazed that I hadn’t been in 6 years, and said my teeth were in perfect condition – yay!

Today we were invited to London Edge – a trade buyer show where alternative fashion sellers show off their new lines.

monkeygenes

We walked around for a few hours and chatted to various brands. The people from Monkey Genes were so nice, they make a line of jeans made from organic materials. I think Tom’s going to quiz them for Snippets.

It was very interesting getting to meet the brands I have worn in person.

I love goodie bags and I think they should be revived (something I may be writing about for Venus Zine). I got a pretty awesome one today which had a t-shirt, perfume, playing cards, pin up girl transfer tattoos (another thing I want to make cool again), magnets, posters, a tote bag and lot’s of other little things. I just love free stuff.

Yes girl… Saturday, January 24th, 2009

heathrow

This week has been Yes week, so I’ve been accepting all kinds of offers and opportunities to see where it takes me. I ended up in Heathrow Terminal 5 (Tom has a an ambition to visit every tube stop by the end of the year), went to a very scary class that I don’t want to go back to…

was interviewed by Pink of Perfection, commissioned an artist to paint a portrait of my handbag, travelled to E17 (of East 17 fame) to go to a craft night, met Deborah of Craft Guerilla,

knitontube

gave a lady who was knitting on the tube a Moo card for CO+K, interviewed an organizing consultant, had dinner in Hampstead, travelled to the end of the Northern Line, finalized the layout of the mew, and have jogged for at least half an hour every day. Phew, that sounds like a lot but it’s been loads of fun. Saying yes doesn’t end there though, I’ve agreed to attend all kinds of events over the coming week too and I don’t plan on saying no anytime soon.

In a couple of hours Ikea are going to deliver huge boxes of new furniture and we’ll spend the afternoon being DIY experts. I think we’ll reward ourselves with a movie after.

I’ve been reading Danny Wallace’s book, Yes Man and it’s really good. He made a deal with his friend that he would answer every opportunity, challenge and proposition with a “Yes” for a few months, to make his life more exciting, and it’s interesting learning about the adventures he had because of it. I’m going to try it for a whole day – tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Today we went for lunch at Little Venice, but our usual cafe boat was just closing when we arrived, so out of desperation we headed in to a nearby pub. The funny thing is, it turned out to be one of the best pubs ever. It was really cosy, covered in fairy lights, was playing Bright Eyes music and had fantastic food and drink. We treated ourselves to winter Pimms and hot apple juices, mulled wine and hot chocolates. For lunch, Tom had a yummy plate of camembert. It just goes to show that a seemingly bad thing can lead to a really good place.

After lunch, we went to get a Christmas tree from Clifton Nurseries – it’s an amazing place, with a lot of history behind it. It was really dark apart from trees lit up with fairy lights. The nursery itself was huge, with a florist, a Christmas ornament shop, a cafe, an organic deli and an amazing glass house. We picked the best looking tree and wandered down the street with it. It looks huge in the mew and we don’t have anything to decorate it with yet, but we’re going to craft lots of pretty ornaments.
