Dream job in a Christmas cracker factory… Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

pancakes

The super exciting news this week is that Cut Out + Keep has signed with IndieClick advertising agency. We’ve wanted to work with them for a while, but they don’t take on many websites, and now we’re finally big enough! This means that IndieClick will deal with all the selling of our advertising space, leaving me with time to work on producing awesome content. We signed the papers over pancakes at Plan 9.

On Monday, Emma, Ben, Tom and I went for dinner at Yo! Sushi, followed up with drinks at a pub where the bar was covered in creepy clown dolls. On Tuesday, we headed through to Ealing for a pub quiz and came 2nd (thanks to Lynz being super smart) and won a round of  8 drinks for the table. We also played Consequences, which I had never played before and it was so funny. Here are some of the stories which were written about me:

  • Freddie Mercury met Cat in Holland Park. He said “what’s a Shawshank Redemption” and she said “there is a minor delay on the central line due to a signal failure at Shepherd’s Bush”, then they won Euromillions.
  • Limmy met Cat at a stabbing in Wilsden Junction. He said “how do you like your eggs in the morning?” and she said “I’m sorry to inform you of your wife’s death…”, and then yet more ants were imported – which gave all the anteaters something to do.
  • Mr Dave Stewart Esq met Cat in Mexico, just above the border. He said “don’t! stop! me… noooow…!” and she said “when you think about it, Italy does kind of look like a boot, when viewed from space of course”, and then they went to Euro Disney and poked Mickey Mouse.

icecreamists

TimeOut had vouchers for free ice cream at The Icecreamists, guerilla pop-up icecream shop at Selfridges, so we headed along on Monday.

icecream

Tom went for the Obamarama In The Whitehouse flavour, which was a mix of white and dark chocolate and I went for Crazy About Hazelnuts. I’m glad we had a voucher, because priced at £5 a scoop, it’s expensive ice cream.

3D

On Tuesday we went to see Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs in 3D at the iMax. Apart from having to wear super geeky 3D glasses over my already geeky glasses, the movie was awesome. It looked great huge in 3D and felt like food was actually flying at us from the screen. We want to go and see Up there next.

sushi

On Wednesday night, it was date night, so we went to Yo! for far too many plates of sushi, as we had a 40% off voucher. I was going to take photos of all my favorite plates but I forgot all about it half way through the meal. My favorites are kaiso salad (seaweed salad), tuni onigri rolls, veggie yakasoba noodles, pumpkin korroke and Californian handrolls.

fangs

I got a little carried away in the Halloween section of Sainsburys and bought fangs and kitty cat ears (which I wish I  could wear all the time), I think I’ve been watching too much True Blood. Afterwards we went to see Julie & Julia, which was an okay film apart from the main actress being super annoying. Also, it made it seem like anyone could get rich and famous from blogging, which was misleading. Ohh, good news… Weatherspoon’s have root beer as a mixer now, so you can get amaretto and root beer, which is the best drink ever!

London fashion week… Saturday, September 19th, 2009

fashionweek

This week is London Fashion week, so today we went for brunch at Plan 9, where we spotted Bill Nighy (from Love Actually & The Boat That Rocked), and then headed to Somerset House for the exhibition.

0605-oxfam-10-450x225

Tom described the exhibition as a “degree show with money”. We had a good look around at the designers work and bagged a bunch of swag. Oxfam are working on an intersted DIY project and they sounded keen to get CO+K involved with it. Mrs Jones (who’s best known for making Kylie’s white hooded outfit) had made an amazing dress out of a pair of curtains and is running DIY workshops for revamping your wardrobe. They gave me a really cute tote with a card wallet, carrot plant seeds, chocolates and other stuff.

photo

Everyone kept asking to take photos of Tom in his Joey D jacket and he got really scared.

catwalk

The catwalk was a bit crazier than we had imagined, with a massive wall of photographers at one end. I loved the sound of the collective shutters.

sparkle

We went to see the Ashish show, which had lots os sparkly sequined outfits, including a very cute icecream cone dress.

brewdog

In other news, we’d been on the hunt for Brew Dog beers for a while and to our amazements, we found them in our local Sainsburys. We need to do something with them for Snippets.

picnic

We were also sent Starbucks coffee vouchers, so yesterday we had a picnic with gigantic coffees, sushi and Hummingbird cake in Hyde Park.

I better get some sleep now, as we’re up early for more fashion week stuff, open doors day, gin cocktails that I won and a fashion party tomorrow.

hangingbaskets

This week hasn’t been as summery, so we bought some hanging baskets and new plants and flowers to brighten up the mews.

flowers

We borrowed Diana’s ladder to hang the baskets up, and now she has swine flu, so I guess it’s just a matter of time before we all get it. We’re not entirely sure how we’re going to water the flowers, as they’re so high up, but Emma and Raven have volunteered to lean out of their window and drop water down on to them.

sushi

On Thursday we went for sushi with Raz and Anna at a tasty restaurant under Centre Point. The food was so fresh and nice. Afterwards we grabbed root beers and amaretto at the Crobar, which Anna described as tasting like “disinfectant marzipan”, and went to see Gran Torino at The Prince Charles. We got the super comfy, double-size, fold up love seat at the back.

vivbrooch

I bought a dress during the xmas sales, which turned out to be one or two sizes too small for me, that now fits perfectly! My jogging has been paying off and I’m super happy. Tom bought me a gorgeous Vivienne Westwood brooch to wear with it.

In other news, we’ve been giving dating advice to the neighbours, Tom taught me how to read Roman numerals and I’ve bought some sports wear, so that we can go play tennis in the park and run around the track.

dragon

Yesterday we got to hang out with Lyndsey. We’d spotted a Chinese river boat festival in TimeOut, which sounded good but when we got there, it wasn’t what we expected. It seemed to be all about selling insurance. There was a stage where someone called Bathroom Girl was performing, which was amusing.

sushi1

We decided to head to Canary Wharf and have lots and lots of sushi instead.

lynds

Afterwards we headed to Gordon’s Wine bar for an icy cold bottle of white wine. We picked up some cupcakes up from CandyCakes and heading home for spaghetti bolognaise.

neighbours

We had our dinner outside and Raven and Emma (our upstairs neighbours) joined us. Time flew away with itself and we ended up chatting until after midnight. Tonight we’re all having a girly night in, watching Wild Child with lots of popcorn.

On Friday night we went to Thrash Hit’s first year birthday party with Raz at the Crobar in Soho. They serve root beer as a mixer, so we tried it with amaretto and that could quite possibly be the best drink ever.

marspatrol

On Saturday we were invited to see Ross’ new band, The Mars Patrol play the Camden Barfly. Gail Porter is their biggest fan and was there jumping around and getting on stage.

musselsandbeer

After the gig, we were standing at the bus stop when we decided we didn’t feel like going home, so headed to Belgo for mussels and beer. I tried Floris cheery and raspberry beers, which were so nice.

After waking up a little hazy on Sunday morning, we went food shopping for our dinner party. It had turned in to such a lovely day by the time we got home and our upstairs neighbours were sitting outside, so we introduced ourselves and sat drinking wine and eating sun lollies with them until Clare and Jo arrived for dinner. Raven, our neighbour from Texas, gave Tom a can of coffee from home. It has chicory in it and makes really spicy iced coffee.

teacup

Clare brought me a really cute little Japanese tea cup as a present. Clare and I are 50p penpals, so we find gifts for 50p and post them to each other. Jo and her run a stall called Pogostick Pie, where they sell adorable china tea sets – go and see them if you get a chance!

jenga

After dinner we headed to the pub at Little Venice and played Jenga, while trying not to get the blocks of wood in our pints.

sushilunch

It’s a bank holiday Monday but we’re working hard, as the rest of the week will be busy. I rewarded myself wish a sushi lunch on the doorstep – the neighbours looked jealous.

A day in the life… Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Up super early. Interviewed Princess Superstar – the cover star of our next issue.

fifteen

Hopped over to Old Street for breakfast at Fifteen. Scrambled eggs on toast with a delicious smoothie.

highgate

Headed up to Highgate and took a tour of the cemetery.

sleepingangel

Lots of pretty statues and mausoleums, including this sleeping angel.

hightea1

Cream tea at High Tea cafe and headed for the tube. Travelled all the way down to Morden, so that Tom could scribble off the Northern Line. There was a little toddler pole dancing on the tube.

sushi

Headed to Embankment and had a mound of sushi for lunch in the park. Walked to Trafalgar Square, sat and watched the tourists.

routemaster

Jumped on a Route Master and travelled along to the Royal Albert Hall.

cherryblossom

Walked home through Hyde Park and admired the cherry blossom, while Tom made faces.

swan

We saw a swan.

Back home and very sleepy, going to watch Louis Therox and go to bed.

Bento lunch… Thursday, July 24th, 2008

bentorestaurant

My parents are visiting again and today they took me for a bento box at a Japanese restaurant in China Town. I loved this restaurant, they had tables with cushions instead of seats, so that you could kneel down while you dined – handy when wearing kimono.

bento1

The sushi and green tea was really good too.

sandcastles

Afterwards we went for a walk along the South Bank where people were making massive sand castles, some people were doing more work than others.

The secret life of Barbie… Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

the-secret-life-of-barbie

I’ve decided to start a new photo project about the secret life of Barbie.

dicehairclips

I was clearing out some old board games, so I decided to make a set of hair ties out of them. The skull hair bow was sent to me from Kustom Voodoo.

dvds

I was also sent a set of DVDs, Yoga and Pilates for Indie Rockers. They’re so cool because you can use your own music as the backing track to work out too.

sushi

I’m loving sushi from Tesco at the moment, it’s sooo good, especially the tuna rolls.

Point and click… Monday, January 28th, 2008

cameratee

Tom got his brother, Jack a cool tee for his Christmas, and I was jealous, so today I made my own cool camera tee. It’s printed with the icons you get on the scroll wheel of a Canon camera.

sparkles

On the subject of photography, Tom got me this cool little lens sticker gizmo for my camera phone. It makes the lights all twinkly.

sushifish

I made a sushi fish necklace for my swap partner on CO+K. I modified the original project, to add shrink plastic sushi charms to the chain.
