Wake up cave girl… Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Although we’re still recovering from jet lag, this week is London Fashion Week, so we had to be up super early for fashion shows this weekend.

Luckily having breakfast at Fifteen perked us right up.

On the subject of fashion, I got Tom this awesome Vivienne Westwood shirt, which has a tie buttoned down the front. It was on sale but they didn’t have it in his size, so I’ll have to re-tailor it when it arrives.

Last night was the Central Saint Martins catwalk show (ohhh how I wish I had went to fashion school) and here were some of my favorite looks. It turns out someone I went to high school with was in the show last year. I’ve been inspired to take a trip to Goldhawk Road this week and make some more dresses and maybe start my Burberry mac.

Tonight we decided to sample the Spanish absinthe that I got on holiday. These ones actually have thujone in and the black one is 85%… it burns!

I’ve been working super hard this week because I’m not really going to be around for the next two. The bad weather has stopped us from doing too much, though it has encouraged me to finish knitting my scarf, which now has pockets as well as a hood with cat ears. I really can’t wait until the end of the week, when I’ll be relaxing in the sun of Santa Cruz, Taco & La Laguana – frozen margaritas ahoy!

We did a best projects of 2009 list for CO+K. There were so many amazing projects last year, the site is growing so fast.

My Lady Dragon shoes arrived last week and I love them so much but I’ll have to wait until the weather improves before I can wear them out.

This weekend we hung out with Lynz & friends and met up with our old high school friend John, who’s living in London now, and catch up on the past 6 to 7 years. Also, the ladies at Plan 9 wrote us a big checklist of places to visit while we’re in New York, I can’t wait!

Choose life not Fife… Monday, January 11th, 2010

sew

There’s an interview with me in the latest issue of Sew Hip magazine. It’s also got my how-to and the pattern for making Louis Vuitton style rabbit ears. You can pick a copy up in WH Smith and you’ll know it’s the right issue because it’s got the ears on the cover!

cathat

On the subject of crafting, I’ve almost finished my kitty ear hooded scarf, which I started knitting in Paris well over a year ago. I’m just making pockets for it now. It’s sooooo cosy! I’ll post the pattern on CO+K when it’s finished.

grazebox

In an attempt to eat super healthy in 2010, I signed up to Graze, who deliver healthy snack boxes filled with nuts, fruits and seeds every week. Let me know if you fancy a free box and I’ll give you a code!

viv

Tom got me a couple of late Christmas presents from the Vivienne Westwood sale including an awesome rosette and wrap scoop top, I love them both so much.

ikea

The snow has been preventing us from going out as much, so we’ve been raiding the DVD store and having movie nights in with Emma. We did have a trip to Ikea, where we got a new TV bench, magnetic knife rack and rails so that we could hang the bus blind up. This photo reminds me that I need to work on my costume for Mardis Gras – I’m thinking of making a mermaid tail.

If you’ve ever wondered where I come from, here’s an awful video showing Fife at it’s “best” – you can see why I left.

Happy new decade… Friday, January 1st, 2010

ravenportrait

We got back to London to discover this amazing portairt of Emma, Tom, Me and Raven, which Raven had painted for us as a Christmas present. It’s based on this photo and she’s captured all the little details, like the necklace we gave her as her leaving present. It’s only 6 weeks until we see her in New Orleans for Mardis Gras.

menus

Our last day in Scotland was spent in Edinburgh with my family. We went to an amazing little cafe called the Roseleaf down in Leith. It’s full of quirky little touches, such as menus binding inside copies of National Geographic and hardback books, candles in teacups and mismatched tableware.

food

The food was delicious too. We had waffles, pilled with caramelised bananas and sampled the applewood mac n cheese.

parade

We’re back in London now. Last night we spent new year’s eve with friends in Ealing and woke up feeling oddly refreshed to catch a bit of the new year’s parade in town.

Selfridges has an amazing Vivienne Westwood window display.

I want it all, especially the Westwood baubles for our xmas tree.

My new year’s resolutions are to be super organized, craft lots, be proactive, think positive, jog everyday, travel more and catch up with old friends. What are your resolutions?

tree

On Saturday we had a Christmas party at the Mews for our friends. We had mulled wine, mince pies, homemade eggnog and gingerbeer (which tasted better than the shop bought bottle that Lynz bought) and presents for everyone wrapped under the tree. I even made some presents…

3dglasses

including a hama bead 3D glasses necklace for Lynsey. I can now post the how-to and it’s here.

westwoodbag

Before the party, Tom surprised me with a bag from Vivienne Westwood. My party outfit consisted of a black H&M dress, necklace from Forever 21, sparkly silver eyeshadow, my Vivienne Westwood horns…

skullearrings

and a new pair of Vivienne Westwood skull and crossbone earrings. They’re so sparkly and come in an indestructible box. Tom also got me an hour at Lucky Voice karaoke with up to 15 friends, which will be so much fun.

doormat

I gave Tom a whole bunch of geeky presents, including this Come In / Go Away ambigram doormat.

twitter-facebook-mousepad_1

Twitter and Facebook mousepads.

iphone_drink_coasters

iPhone application coasters.

cushions2

… and yesterday I sewed him a set of social-networkig cushions. I’m making a pair of matching RSS ones for him today.

fish

Emma gave Tom the best present though, which will be two pet goldfish when we get back from Scotland. We need to start thinking up names… any suggestions?

squirrels

I also made a couple of squirrel brooches yesterday for the family – I hope they don’t look on here before xmas. Check out the how-to here.

I look at the Sun and I look in the Mirror… Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

themirror

There was a nice little piece on Cut Out + Keep in the Daily Mirror newspaper on Monday. They called me on Friday asking for photos to use. Tom said, you were in the newspaper yesterday, will be on fish and chip wrappers today and will be in the recycling tomorrow.

I’d been wanting a Vivienne Westwood horn tiara ever since I first saw one in Paris, but at £250 it wasn’t very realistic. Tom found a blogger in America, who was clearing out and selling hers off, so he got them as my Christmas present.

myhorns

They arrived this morning and they are so sparkly and pretty. They’re replicas of the ones Vivienne wore to meet the queen.

hornglow

Tom let me have a peak at them. All I need to do now is save up for “the dream dress“.

station

My Mum and Nana have come down to visit, so we picked them up from the train station at midnight last night. Beforehand, Tom and I went on an impromptu very late night dinner date at Carluccios in St. Pancras station – delicious pasta followed up by Tiramisu.

tenbells

While Tom was at work today (playing on the 3-floor office helter-skelter slide and ping pong table), we all went for pancakes at Plan 9 followed up with a wander around Spittalfields. I took Nana for a drink in the Ten Bells, because she’s a fan of Jack The Ripper.

door

This door always makes me smile when I walk past.

cakes

We got tasty cakes from the Indian bakery on Brick Lane.

green

I went for a florescent green pistachio cube. I’d love to know what these are called.

kisses

This Twilight movie poster in the tube made me giggle on the way home.

What’s a Shawshank Redemption? Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Screen shot 2009-11-13 at 18.11.47

Today was the Estethica press day at the Mayfair Hotel, so Emma and I went along super early for a snoop around. It’s a showcase for designers who work with sustainable products, including Christopher Raeburn from Project Catwalk. I had already seen most of the designs at Fashion Week but Junky Styling had a really pretty skirt that I want. It didn’t take as long as we were expecting but we did get goodie bags when we left.

shawshankredemption

Afterwards we went for a snoop around Vivienne Westwood, Emma fell in love with a pair of £500 boots and I got tempted to try on the horns. Emma still couldn’t work out what a Shawshank Redemption was.

Screen shot 2009-11-13 at 18.13.37

Afterwards we went to the Tatty Devine press day at their new (not open to the public yet) store in Covent Garden. The Summer collection has a seaside and tearoom theme and there’s an awesome bunting necklace I want. They gave us red doily-inspired rings in our goodie bags and I couldn’t resist buying a 3D glasses necklace with the 20% discount.

plane

It started raining, so we went for an educational trip around the Science Museum, where we discovered that Emma has a woman’s brain. Apparently you can have sleepovers in the museum, so we want to have an all night birthday party there.

cupcaje

After stopping off at Hummingbird, we headed home for lunch, where Tom and Sean (the no.3 person under 30 to watch according to The Sunday Time) were hard at work on Drowned In Sound. We may have annoyed them by watching Limmy and Adam & Joe, while eating cupcakes (chocolate & chai = yum!) and offering everyone beer.

In the evening, Tom took me to a Facebook Developer Garage, which was quite interesting but after getting up at 6.30 with only 3 hours of sleep, I started dozing off.

tom

It was open doors day in London yesterday, so we decided to go up Broadgate Tower, one of the few skyscrapers that was open to the public. Tom wanted to go around the Olympics but it was all booked up.

cat

There was a fantastic view, we tried to see our house.

gerkin

Tom tried to eat the Gerkin, which we had earlier found the bottom of. I was excited because I had never seen it before.

kisses

Back at Fashion Week, my sandal snapped but Tom came to my rescue with super glue. We went for a snoop around the exhibition, which was quite cool. There was a wall of super model kisses.

westwood

Sadly, we left it too late to get tickets for the Vivienne Westwood show but as we had time to kill before the Pout party, we decided to check out the venue and see the Viv outfits the guests were wearing. We saw Geri Halliwell (wowie a real life Spice Girl), Manolo Blahnik, the ginger one from Girl’s Aloud, Joss Stone, Peaches Geldof and Daisy Lowe. In the evening we were at Adam Street for the Pout party, but we were worn out so we didn’t stay too long.

I’ve just finished watching series 2 of True Blood and I love it so much.

I wanna be your cat… Friday, July 31st, 2009

vivbag

My new Vivienne Westwood handbag arrived and I love it so much. The bowling bags are the perfect size for lugging around all of my stuff and this one is vinyl, so it’s easy to clean.

cover_1248884577

The new issue of Snippets is online now with Gala Darling on the cover. She was fun to interview and she really liked how the article turned out. This is our 16th!! issue and the theme is Vintage & Retro.

clangers_1248696783_720x480

Also, we have a new illustrator, Lucy Farfort working with us at Snippets and she created this awesome Clangers illustration especially for this issue. I really love her style.

seeds

In Mews news, the chili seeds (which we got with our bill at Wahaca) have sprouted and are doing really well. I hope we end up with real chillies.

I’ve been working so hard this week and I’ve really worn myself out, so we had to pass on a second magazine launch and drinks in Covent Garden tonight, but this weekend we’ve got loads on the go – Sonisphere Festival, Field Day After Party, Cupcakes, Cocktails & Crossstitch and a craft fair… fun, fun, fun!

One more time with feeling… Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

clare

Saturday was Clare’s birthday, so we headed down to Herne Hill to celebrate in a pub with a spotty dalmatian.

waxseal

I had ordered her a personalized wax seal, with her name on, and Tom brought her a Candy Cake, complete with a birthday candle.

On Sunday, we had a Vegetarian BBQ at the mews. Raven, Emma, Tony, Lynsey and Claire came and it was quite successful, apart from it raining midway through cooking the food, but it was nothing that an umbrella couldn’t fix.

Yesterday, I had an incredibly sloggy day at work and then snuggled up to watch Wimbeldon, the movie (which was awful) and a bit of Narnia with Tom and Emma in the evening. Tomorrow we’re off on a datenight with Emma and Raven to the movies. Also, this is in the mail and I can’t wait:
