Chateau du Versailles

When we arrived at the train station there was a very loud air raid siren ringing through the town. It was very odd. We followed herds of tourists to find our way to the palace.

The palace was huge and extravagant. Once home to Marie Antoinette, my Dad informed us that it was the most "elustrious castle in the world".

We were given audio guides to lead us around.

There was also an exhibition of Jeff Koons sculptures dotted around the palace. We pretended to pop this one.

I'm not sure if the sculptures really fitted with the surroundings. It kind of spoilt the image of 16th century France seeing a statue of Michelle Jackson and inflatable lobster in the middle of the room.

After touring the palace, we went to see the magnificent gardens and to eat our packed lunch of croissants with cream cheese and salmon.

After lunch we took a train ride around the gardens and to see Marie Antoinette's estate.

The ceilings were amazing.
